.. Today is Codder's turn to meet a new prospective Mom in Ontario.. just outside of Ottawa.. She saw him on the website and found him delightful looking .. Her and hubby are retired so Codder won't be alone.. and thats the best for a basset as they LOVE their family.. and want/need to be with them.. at least till they mature around 2 .. they are more secure then but still want the company.. I hope this sad look turns into those wonderful smiles bassets have that are most expressive ..
.. So I'll be driving up to Ontario today.. in hopes of another successful placement.. its the goal of all rescues to secure their dogs with " Forever Homes " and stop the shuffling of these little Spirits..
.. Fingers crossed..
Edited To say.. He has his Forever Home.. Thanks Penny..
.. Well the Lady just loved him.. She has a wonderful life to offer him in the country with her dogs Bouvier des Flandres.. He will have all the time in the world to play outside in and enclosed safe area.. as well a lovely home to stay warm at night.. a loving Mom .. What more could I ask for.. I'm happy for my boy Lucky..
Aaarrroooooooooooooooooooooooooo
.. Some storms engage wind .. some rain.. even sand.. but the bassets that through the Universe's gentle wisdom has lead them here.. There storms are not so visible.. it might be no time.. it might be a girl friend.. it might be an allergy.. that sends them packing .. I'll never quite understand any of it.. I guess because I live my life with two feet engaged .. I can change my mind about a bedspread.. a color.. a car.. but never about my commitment to the little Spirits that Grace My house.. These little travelers through no fault of their own are castaway's .. like old jeans or shoes..
.. Bassets are resilient thank goodness.. they always have that heart beating in them.. their eyes tell their stories because they are so soulful .. I often stop to watch them rest.. twitch even smile in their sleep and I wonder what mischief they are up to. As I type 5 of them are here just napping.. Its raining outside so no fun out there.. The Basset 500 will have to be somewhat shorter today.. Its often funny when a newbie comes that has never engaged the 500.. they first seem guarded against it.. but once the game begins.. it isn't long before its full out .. I'll grab my empty paper towel roll and join in the howling.. they love that and stop momentarily to see if someone else has come.. To see its just me and carry on..
.. Yes these little travelers although come from various back grounds .. ages.. colors.. They all have that good nature in common... When they finally relax and realize things will be okay.. My heart sings.. for I know this port in the storm works for the best interest of these wonderful 4 leggers..
.. I know I can't save them all.. but those that I can.. You bet your cookies I will..
Aaarrrooooooooooooooooo

.. What a day this has been.. heart wrenching to say the least.. Billy was out of sorts last night he seemed real quiet.. did not want to eat.. I figured he was just having a hard day.. This morning I fed everyone as usual and Billy again left his food.. this wasn't good.. but I had an appointment with little Charlotte to see a possible " Forever Home " .. I left there made a quick pit stop to pick up some more Quilted Wall Hangings for a Charity Fundraisor then came home..
.. Billy was drooling and coughing.. I felt his throat I thought maybe he ate something while I was out and it was stuck.. No I felt lumps.. my heart sank.. I knew these .. I had had a weimaraner several years back that had something similar.. I called the vet for an appointment ASAP.. they fit me in today at 6:15 .. as I sat in the waiting room Billy of course attracted attention as all bassets do.. but he just wagged his tail a bit and laid on the cool floor as its quite humid here today. Well we were called in.. The vet asked so whats up with Billy.. I said I'm not sure he has swollen glands I think.. she felt them then felt him all over.. and I saw " THAT LOOK " the one every pet owner dreads .. Helen.. he has lymph node cancer all over him.. feel here and here.. My eyes welled up .. there was nothing to be done .. He needed to be put to sleep.. I was shaking.. how could this be.. he finally had a chance at a " good life " to only be robbed.. She said your doing the right thing.. anything less wouldn't be .. I looked at her and said okay.. Do you want to stay.. I said of course I owe him that.. It was done..
.. I said I'll be back for the ashes to bury him properly.. and left.. I stopped at the desk.. paid the bill .. went to my van and wept all the way home..
.. No one said it was going to be easy.. Rest In Peace Billy..
.. Well the Universe is kind.. Billy Bob was just out with his Foster Mom running errands and while walking a car stopped and the couple felt they had to compliment Lisette on this lovely basset.. She explained that he wasn't her's just one she was helping us by fostering him.. Well they were over joyed with that news and wanted him on the spot.. It was explained there was a procedure to be followed before any basset was adopted.. They said no problem took a card from Lisette and went home.. They called and asked for an Application.. It was sent out within the hour and returned.. this couple truly wanted him.. I phoned their references who I must add sang their praises as basset owners .. They have one called George he's 10..
.. I called her back after doing my checks and told her they could surely adopt Billy Bob.. They were excited.. I said is tomorrow okay.. as the sooner a foster gets to its forever home the better.. " Oh yes tomorrow around 1:00 is fine "
.. I delivered Billy to them and he got to meet George .. who wasn't quite sure as he was the king of his castle .. He grumbled a bit as most introductions go.. but soon they were in the yard and scoping out one another.. I knew this was going to be a good fit.. This couple LOVES bassets .. well animals I'd say as they have a blind cat and birds.. The cat even liked Billy.. Who could ask for anything more..
.. Billy Boy has a wonderful home with loving parents.. and an older step brother George The Basset..

Happy Endings Rock.. Thanks To His New Family..
