Ellie & Archie Arrive Today

... Well the transport is running on time.. both Ellie ( bloodhound ) and Archie ( basset/beagle ) stayed over night in Toronto and I'm sure they were all glad to have a break from the transport.. This time 6 dogs of various breeds were in the transport.. which makes it rather crowded but at least they won't die.. various rescues stepped up.. Most folks don't know how very many rescues help dogs in gas chamber dog pounds or animal control shelters. Both Ontario and Quebec take a fair amount of them.. but of course many still are left.. I don't envy all breed rescues .. I'd have a very hard time choosing one from another.. at least my being breed specific I have had from 3 week old pups to 10 year old bassets.. healthy and sick.. its no matter to me.. I'll help any .. We do all work together though especially in transport.. and vetting ectra..

.. I will leave for my pick up in Ottawa about 1:30.. I want to stop in and see how Dexter my basset/weimaraner mix is doing in foster.. as well talk with his foster Dad about some projects he is helping me with.. from there I will pick up Ellie and Archie ..

.. I must say I am a bit nervous about bringing them home before going to foster after this fiasco with the municipality.. All the others that were here are gone to foster.. I wish I had more fosters though.. its so much easier on me emotionally when I know I have someone to look out for these poor souls until a Forever Home is found.. then again if I somehow can get a facility I'd be sooooooo much better off.. Maybe one day the Universe will grant BHRQ this wish.. as there are so many in need..

Okay enough rambling.. Time to go get ready..

Follow-Up To BHRQ Being Violated

... Well I was in touch with our local newspaper here and explained what had happened.. The editor was appalled and shocked as I was that this could go on.. So she wrote an article after speaking to those involved.. here is the article.. You'll need to Click Blue Link and scroll down to page 5 .. I hope I get some help with this the rescue really cannot afford this craziness.. A few friends wrote these words of disgust to me..

"
Excellent article that shows you are being victimized by your municipality and that won't stand well with the homeowners who pay taxes. I would make reference to money being wasted by the people in charge who are harassing a credible charity organization that benefits the townships by taking animals from shelters and a adopts them out to loving families. "

"Did they knock? Of course they will say they did. Also, the part about "whatever somebody else can actually see"; the only way they "saw" was to move aside your temp covering. That should not have been allowed."

"About the blue cover..looking at the two pictures, the man did pull the tarp corner back to be able to see in the door. I would be inclined to call the police and show them the photographs. Looking up laws, these workers trespassed and committed invasion of privacy. If you inform the police now least that happens is there is a record on file, best scenario charges are laid against the two workers."

Yes they did .. like I said its just lucky I had clothes on.

Ellie The Bloodhound

.. Ellie a lovely bloodhound is coming into BHRQ shortly her sister and her were just left of their own accord.. Luckily they were picked up and brought to a shelter.. They were over filled so they needed the space.. Both girls were coming but on the way one was adopted ..
Sienna will be spayed tuesday and have a few days recovery time until her transport.. I'm glad I was able to step up for this sweet girl.. here's what she looks like..

Violated Again

... These city workers decided to come into my yard.. sneak on to my deck and take pictures through my patio door.. I was in the washroom washing my hair when I heard the dogs barking crazy.. only to see these two figures in my yard.. I thought what the he**.. I wasn't dressed or anything.. I quickly grabbed my camera and took these pictures.. as you can see them peeping in to my kitchen snapping away.. I know this will probably mean a fine .. I wish I knew a good lawyer because I'm tired of this.. thank goodness I had my pajamas on.. imagine if I didn't and found these two here.. talk about violated..

The No Name Basset..

... When I first saw her I was saddened.. here this lovely older girl was listed as an URGENT .. She is an older basset and why take up space for her... She wasn't even given a name.. it was " NONAME " .. Look at her did she deserve that..

Photobucket

I contacted a fellow basseteer to help me get her.. she agreed and then it was getting her vetted her eyes treated for infection and on a transport here.. I couldn't wait to see her.. Here she is leaving the shelter..

Photobucket

After about a week or so she came up.. Here she is in my van when I went to get a coffee at Timmy's..

Photobucket

Now here she is in my yard..

Photobucket

I think she's happier.. her tail is up.. Here she is with the others..

Yes I know I sound crazy..

Harley's Surgery Went Well

... Last night I went and picked up poor Harley.. the guy was soooooo tired... so I talked with the vet .. she told me about his dentistry.. he had to loose 4 teeth.. and another four had pockets.. she injected some antibiotics and sealer in them and hopefully they will be okay.. This is sad that a 5 year old basset who was a stud after being used .. and making money for the breeder (BYB) he was just left to rot .. His teeth were that of an OLD basset that was neglected.. So now he will need his canines brushed daily as he might loose them as well if not kept clean.. I have special food for him as well a brush and paste for this.. but first his mouth must heal and the stitches gone.. should be a week or so..

Then it was on to his two cysts.. they were removed successfully I HOPE.. but he certainly will have scars .. I'm giving him Medicam for the pain.. its helping.. he ate some wet food.. Now I need to find someone to take care of him for a while.. after all look what he has been through..

Photobucket Right Side

Photobucket Left Side

Then there was the BILL... I held my breath.. Yup $710.00 .. thats a big hit for me.. I'll definately have to supplement this one as the rescue really cannot afford it.. Oh well Harley will be okay and thats what counts..

I mean look at that face..

It Doesn't Rain but It Pours..

... That's how I've been feeling these last two days.. I ran my a$$ off all weekend getting dogs.. delivering dogs.. Then yesterday I took Harley to the vet to see about those cysts and a check-up.. well I was right.. his teeth have abscesses and his two cysts need to come off.. the estimate was $510.00 I booked it for wednesday morning.. when I was walking out with him I raised my eyes to the sky thinking " Oh c**p ..

Today it was my car that gave me grief.. the timing belt jumped and it stopped.. So called a tow ($55.00 ) to get it to the garage.. There they told me I'd have to change two belts and they will have to take the head off to be sure the valves are right.. whatever that means.. that estimate was about $400.00 I near flipped.. so here I sit.. rambling on just because I figure some of you out there have days like this when it just keeps going like the ever ready bunny..

On a better note.. the bloodhound Sienna finally has her spay date or next tuesday.. then she can be transported the 27/28th weekend here.. I'm excited about that she's sweet and won't be euthanized .. I'll find her a forever home.. that was about the only good news I received today..

Okay enough .. I'm going to go have a tea and watch 24..

Cheers

LadySadie Arrives

... Tonight I had a pleasant surprise.. Lady Sadie arrived.. she is a sweet gal 1.5 years old that had little chance of being adopted.. she has very striking markings.. All white except for her head.. a natural head turner for sure.. I know she will make a great addition to someone's home with her bubbly personality..

Photobucket

Also today Tellie's trial time came to an end with an adoption.. Her new family of 4 love her and during my home visit I felt she was exactly where she was supposed to be.. That is the feeling all rescuers want.. its a sigh of relief knowing that one of yours finally can call somewhere home instead of the insecurity of non-commitment .. This family is very pet oriented with finches and fish as well.. Its been a good day..

Leo Get's His Forever Home Today

... Well Leo is going to his forever home with a lovely couple that has a basset now.. I'm thrilled Leo won't be alone and she is almost the same age.. He has been being fostered with 2 beagles so he has had company there as well.. So I will go get him this morning for his journey to a new life.. I will post pictures of him and his new family once I return today..

Photobucket

A picture says a thousand words.. haha

Well actually I have a vet appointment for Harley this afternoon so I'll probably just pick him up and be off .. So after that.. as Harley needs that cyst and his teeth checked.

See you later.. Have a good day..

PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION AGAINST GAS CHAMBERS APRIL 17, 2010 / MARCHE PACIFIQUE CONTRE LES CHAMBRES À GAZ LE 17 AVRIL 2010

"THE FIGHT AGAINST GAS CHAMBERS / LA LUTTE CONTRE LES CHAMBRES À GAZ .

PLEASE sign the petition to abolish gas chambers in Quebec and throughout Canada. Signatures from all over the world are welcome. Please forward to all your contacts and post to your web sites.

Please join us at our peaceful demonstration in Montreal, Saturday, April 17, 2010, leaving from Parc Lafontaine at 1:00 pm. Rain or shine, we will fight! Remember, animals don't suffer and die ONLY ON SUNNY DAYS! Invite your friends, neighbours, work colleagues and family members.

* Gas chambers are one of the most cruel and barbaric methods to euthanize animals.
* All the animals suffer from stress and trauma for days before they are thrown "live" into the gas chamber. They lay in cages for up to 56 hours, deprived of food for 3 days, prior to their insufferable death.
* It takes 15 to 25 minutes before these animals die in this chamber, as their lungs are literally burned and destroyed by carbon monoxide.
* Gas chambers in Quebec and throughout Canada must be out-lawed in Quebec and throughout Canada. THAT euthanasia by injection of barbiturates would be a distinct preferable resolution, as it would diminish the suffering to these animals.

Lady Sadie Arrives Feb.13th.

... This girl's time was up.. You see in some other shelters especially " Pounds " have a quota and time limit to hold dogs.. then they use their method of killing.. some its the needle others are still barbaric using gas chambers.. She was at a gas chamber pound.. I received a request " Do I have room " How could I say anything but sure.. look at her.. does she deserve to die because someone doesn't walk in the door for a few days..

Bloodhounds Tossed Out ..

.. You know this is always amazing to me.. How folks can toss dogs out of a car or back of a pick-up.. seriously.. Today I learned of two such dogs.. they are bloodhounds no longer wanted so tossed like yesterdays garbage.. So they too will be coming here.. They look to me like litter mates but I won't be sure until I see them.. To me they are just long legged bassets haha.. Here they are though.. in case they might interest you to foster or adopt..

This Makes Me Crazy

.. Daily I get calls or emails about having room for this basset or that basset.. I wish I did often.. I know somehow I need to get a place where the municipality won't fine me for extra dogs and I can help save more needy ones.. I mean just tonight I have a request to take this pup.. he is emaciated probably has worms.. no vaccines.. not neutered.. just left tied outside a building... So of course I have to step up and take this boy although I don't have a foster right now for him.. so he will come here bringing my numbers in the house 4 over limit.. but look at him..

Photobucket

Photobucket

Skin and bones.. I shake my head at the fool that did this.. and am grateful I can come to his aid.. so its crowded thats nothing new for me.. its just sad..

Surprise Surprise Harley Needs Surgery

... Yes this boy has a couple of things going on.. he has this lump/cyst.. notice on his side.. and his teeth are horrid.. So he will require that these be taken care of before adoption is possible.. Where is it all going to come from some days I ask the Universe.. Alas it needs doing so it shall be done and hopefully the cyst/lump will be benign ..

Say a prayer..

Harley

Sometimes the collateral damage of a divorce is a basset.. Both parties are hurt so they make decisions like give up their family pet.. Yes Harley a five year old basset is just this case.. He is sad and confused.. this velcro boy needs someone who is home most of the time to give him back the trust he has lost for people.. That is the biggest hurdle for rescues.. abandonment issues .. new adoptive parents need to be patient and recognize this.. It may take a short while or a year for him/her to feel you really want and love them.. Kind of like a foster child.. So this guy is needy in some fashions.. If you can provide him a secure foster home or adoptive home.. Let me know..

Balzac

Photobucket

This boy is Balzac.. he is 7 years old and unfortunately his owner needs to move into a Assisted Living Facility.. needless to say they don't allow pets sadly.. I'll never get this rule.. Often pets are seniors best companions .. Anyway this guy will be coming as soon as all is arranged.. he will definitely be confused and depressed by this turn of event.. but I will do my best to get him a home here in Montreal on the chance his owner might be able to have a visit with him.. I'll have to wait and see.. In the meantime if this boy interests you.. be in touch to either foster or adopt him..
