Baxter & Copper

... Yes today has been a busy day.. I showed Ellie ( the bloodhound ) to a prospective adopter .. Then I had to go get Copper who I might add stunk like he had been sitting or walking in pee.. So I got him home and it was in the booster bath for this big boy.. I swear he's at least 70 pounds.. but now he is a sweet smelling 70 pounds of love.. He'll be coming with me to the Pet Fair tomorrow in Hudson as well I'm bringing Bruce.. I wish I could bring them all but I cannot.. It should be a hoot as there also is a Pet Idol contest.. Kind of like David Letterman's stupid pet tricks.. haha.. needless to say there won't be any bassets doing tricks.. their trick is to do the flat basset or make stuff disappear.. they are like Houdini at times..
Here are the newbies pictures.. Copper.. full basset.. Baxter is a basset/labrador mix..

Connections

.. Today again I am scrambling to find someone in Missouri or a bordering state as there is a puppy miller getting rid of some " stock " these breeders will finally get a chance at a life.. they are basset mixes small about 25 pounds.. They will be pulled this week but need somewhere to go.. I can get transportation to Chicago but I have no connection there to hold these darlings. It just all makes me crazy.. So many in need not enough hours in the day nor enough connections to make things happen.. lives lie in the balance sadly.. They so deserve more I mean look at this face..

Behavior Problems

... You know again today I got a call about a misbehaving hound.. needless to say his owner feels that taking her dog to a trainer is too expensive.. now she has allowed a behavior to manifest and wants the dog out.. I just don't get it.. why invest in a dog both monetarily as well as emotionally create a problem and wash your hands of it.. would you do that to a child.. So now again I am looking for another foster to take in this unwanted three year old boy..
There is so much written information on this internet as well visual's to help dog owners with problems.. geezzzz you can find out anything from " How To Express/Empty Anal Sacs " to " Solving Anxiety Problems " or " Aggressive Behaviors " you just need to google it or look on YouTube for a How To Video.. Not exactly rocket science. I know I'm ranting but I'm upset..

Lena/Luna

.. Finally this old gal has what I feel will be her forever home with another adopted basset of mine called Ashton.. He came in two years ago at 10 and was quickly scooped up to be a companion to Ginger his equal in age.. She had lost her mate and was depressed.. Ashton filled that gap and all has been well.. Unfortunately I received an email from his owner letting me know that Ginger had crossed the bridge.. and my Ashton now was in need of a friend.. Yes you guessed it.. Lena/Luna is the perfect match for him.. So today I went up to Ontario to get her and bring her back.. I took her to meet Ashton that had just returned from the groomer looking lovely as usual.. Well they hit it off his tail was wagging he barked and looked happy.. there is a cat in the home but he couldn't tussle with her.. So I'll wait a couple of days but I think she is HOME.. YAY..

Cooking With Bassets

... It is pure madness to try to cook with this gang here but it is my day tomorrow for Meals On Wheels.. So as my menu plan is beef stew the time allotted to do this in the community kitchen isn't enough.. as meals have to be made and ready between 9:00 and 11:15.. thats for soup .. salad.. main course and dessert.. with a regular menu I can pull it off.. but not with stew.. So I did it here.. oh this gang drove me nuts.. I was tossing them carrots.. turnips.. celery.. fatty bits off the beef cubes.. they ate everything the turnip was a big hit.. I tell you there is nothing like trying to maneuver over seven bassets.. especially if they decide they aren't going anywhere.. its " Flat Basset " time.. So I managed but it took a tad longer. The stew is simmering.. I'll add the spuds last after all is tender.. Yes days like this just leave me a little harangued.. Its all worth it though.. I know those 24 seniors I cook for will have a good meal.. That in itself is enough..

Archie has the company of another dog and cats.. Dexter has another basset to play with as well they both have LOVING families.. You know this is what its all about for me.. knowing that they have gone from being unwanted.. abused.. neglected spirits to that.. A very stable life with all the trimmings.. WooHooo.. Lots Of Juggling These Days

.. You know its tough some days being a one woman show.. but I'm still getting things done thanks to some basseteers.. The logistics for the Shamrock Waddle are almost done.. everyone will be there so far.. even though downtown Montreal should be packed between the Saint Patrick's Parade and The Old timers at the Bell Center.. The dog coats and shamrock bandannas are just about finished ( Thanks To Lisette ) Jessy has made the t-shirt order with a few spares just in case.. The pooped wagon will be decorated and in tow should a basset get tired on route.. I got to the Dollar Store and purchased a few shamrock odds and sods they had to offer.. I even found little green hats for my bassets.. haha.. now if I could get them to wear hats I'd be thrilled.. I'm bringing 3 or 4 to walk in the parade.. I think we are going to have about 30 bassets there and one wanabe .. I can't wait.. I'll definitely have my camera.. I hope all the Basseteers have a good time and the weather holds out..

Saturday Ellie ( the bloodhound ) will be going for a trial with her potential adopters YAY.. I'll also probably be picking up another one.. busy day for sure..

On a sad note one of our basseteers basset was diagnosed with lymphoma and won't be attending the waddle.. he's only 10 .. Hang in there Kathy.. and Alison's Fernando had a lump removed and it was cancer.. Lets all hope they got it all.. She too won't be attending.. {{{HUGS}}}

Paisley went home she was happy to see her family.. here Archie is missing her.. so now he is playing with Harley..

Micky and Hoover had their baths tonight.. they smell great and are nice and shiny.. the yard is a tad mucky.. here's hoping they stay relatively clean..

Well its 11:20 I'm kind of tired.. time to hit the bed with these hooligans..

Archie & Paisley Playing

... This morning I was watching how Archie is now feeling allot at ease here .. I think having Paisley here visiting has given him a chance to play with someone his size.. Here is what I captured this morning..

Waddle Numbers Growing

.. Well it appears that our Saint Patrick's Day Waddle here in Montreal is going to get a good turnout.. Basseteers are RSVP'ing positively.. they are bringing family as well as their bassets.. One set of pups will be pulled in a wagon.. We all have to hope that the bassets don't all pull the flat basset on us.. that could be a tad embarrassing but funny at the same time.. The green coats and shamrock bandannas are almost ready to go..modeled by our own Mozart .. who will be in the Waddle ..

The t-shirt design is chosen..

We will be wearing it in Unity.. Yes it should be a hoot.. and people are still calling to be a part of this Waddle.. So if anyone out there is interested.. be in touch..

Long Day..

.. Long day yesterday.. Left here at 1:00 as I got an email the transport had picked up some time.. Good thing too as I got to Ottawa about 2:30.. my cell rang.. they would be at the Petsmart by 3:00 on Innis Road.. Yup Kim ( transport driver ) was there.. as were my two beasts.. talk about the big and small of it.. Ellie the bloodhound is GORGEOUS.. Archie haha.. he's a little beagle.. only thing bassety about him is his red and white coloring.. but he is sweet.. Well after picking up the dogs both James and I were famished so we stopped for a Subway.. we ate in the parking lot with the dogs.. and left.. little did know we would hit this ghastly rain mid way back.. slowing us down.. then I had to stop for gas in Casselman.. time was running.. I knew I still had to get to Lisette's to bring the last of the green material for all the dogs in the parade's coats.. Anyways.. drove James back to get his car in Rigaud.. I went to get the last of the green material for Lisette that I had forgotten in the Acclaim.. got that.. hightailed it down to Saint Lazare.. Oh ya.. I had Paisley there waiting for me as I was holding her for a week while her family went on vacation.. So I went in took Archie to intro them.. stayed about 90 minutes shooting the breeze and unwinding.. Left there came here with the two in tow.. Got home sat down with a tea and just decompressed.. Watched the Ceremonies they WERE GREAT.. laughed at us making fun of Canadians Eh.. Finally went to bed around 1:00 Yuppers long day
