Basset Bustle Party This Weekend

.. I hope some of you basset owners/lovers will be attending the Basset Party in Hamilton Ontario.. see details go to this link

http://www.bassetrescue.ca/bustle2009.html

Please plan to be part of the largest gathering of Basset Hounds in Canada at the 2009 BHRO Basset Bustle Extravaganza.

We are expecting hundreds of basset hounds and their people from across Ontario,Quebec and the U.S. to descend upon the Hamilton/Burlington SPCA off-leash dog park on May 30th to help us all celebrate our dedication and love of bassets, and show our support of Basset Hound Rescue .There will be lots of media to record the largest gathering of bassets in Canada, and you definitely won't want to miss the opening Basset Bustle kick-off extravaganza.

Party with the bassets all weekend

We have set aside a block of rooms at the pet and people friendly Hamilton Residence and Conference Centre, just a few short minutes from the park. The very modest room rates, which include breakfast, also feature oversize rooms and lots of green space.

We will be hosting a big pre-bustle pizza party at the hotel, on the Friday night, for all guests and their dogs. Please join us from 6:30pm - 9:30pm. We will have a quirky little contest or two, with great prizes -- and let's not forget some very yummy pizza from a fabulous local pizzeria.

I think this event would be allot of fun for both basset and guardian..

JJ's Appointment

Today I was up in Saint Hyacinthe Vet College.. I saw their orthopedic guy this morning.. they anesthetized JJ did a set of XRAYS.. so 45 minutes later he called me in.. showed me the legs.. and a plan of action.. cat scan then he will do a cut scrape reshape and pin both bones in the right leg.. remove some bone on both to try to get the over stretched ligaments to pull the ball of the joint into a better area as its way off center .. they truly are in bad shape .. this will hopefully allow the joints to be more solid .. there is already signs of degeneration/arthritis due to the malformations .. he gave me a way to fix this right leg at a reasonable cost of $3000. thats a hole lot better than the $10-12,000.. the other surgeon wanted.. mind you he spoke of joint replacements.. plates ectra.. and a year and a half recovery.. this way with the pinning.. it should be 8-10 weeks.. crated.. then full XRAYS again .. I spoke with his foster to see if she was willing to do this for him as its a BIG job.. cleaning the pins daily.. carrying him in & out to the toilet.... check for oozing of any sort.. he'll have a cone on.. pain meds.. ectra.. Much to my delight.. she agreed.. and asked if she could adopt this boy.. as he has won her heart.. she will schedule vacation time for after his surgery.. she's going to take a course in Tellington Touch therapy.. so I'm pretty confident with her..

Now I just have to raise the funds.. for this leg..

I'll just get there tomorrow with an open mind and hope for the best.. for this sweet guy..

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE -- Franklin, Tennessee (May 21, 2009) -- Today, Nutro Products announced a voluntary recall of select varieties of NUTRO® NATURAL CHOICE® COMPLETE CARE® Dry Cat Foods and NUTRO® MAX® Cat Dry Foods with “Best If Used By Dates” between May 12, 2010 and August 22, 2010. The cat food is being voluntarily recalled in the United States and ten additional countries. This recall is due to incorrect levels of zinc and potassium in our finished product resulting from a production error by a US-based premix supplier.

Two mineral premixes were affected. One premix contained excessive levels of zinc and under-supplemented potassium. The second premix under-supplemented potassium. Both zinc and potassium are essential nutrients for cats and are added as nutritional supplements to NUTRO® dry cat food.

Then you get this going on in pet food ingredients..

Connections to food and pet companies may warrant further investigation

U.S. Marshals seized millions of dollars worth of ingredients on May 7 2009 from American Mercantile Corporation, based in Memphis Tennessee. During an inspection of the company in March, FDA investigators discovered evidence of extensive rodent and insect infestation throughout the company's warehouse, which the company failed to correct.

American Mercantile stores and processes food ingredients, which are sold or used in the dietary supplements, food, tea and pet food manufacturing industries. The seized articles include food products such as sarsaparilla, spearmint leaves, cornstarch, sweet orange peels powder, licorice powder, sassafras, and salt.

Some Crazy Answer..

This just breaks my heart If Your anywhere near him PLEASE HELP.. ..

This adorable beagle-basset mix in Ohio ,

is named Bogger he was:

A. Used as BLOOD DONER dog

in a veterinarian school for an extended period of time.

B. Then sent to a kill shelter.

C. Rescued by a young guy who kept him outside.

He lost his job. His mom and dad now have Bogger.

Long story short...
Bogger has separation anxiety. They tried him out in the house and he chewed the kitchen chairs up, she said. They tried a crate in the house and he panicked and threw a fit.

So he is kept outside, now, in a kennel.

They both work full time jobs and can not deal with Bogger's problem. They are too busy. They don't have time.

Bogger is neutered / fully vetted.

HE'D DO BEST IF PLACED WITH:

Someone who is home most of the time.

Someone who has time to teach him that he needn't be frightened.

Someone who FEELS THE CONNECTION when they look at his photo.

Otherwise, forget it. He's been shuffled around enough...

NOT TO MENTION being kept in a crate for months

while at the veterinary teaching hospital.

Probably the only time he was touched is when they held him down to draw blood.

Wouldn't YOU be afraid?

And now the answer is to kill him?

Please help us get Bogger into the right hands...

loving hands who promise to be there for him, always.

Even though he isn't an S.P.A. dog

please fill out an online application at:

www.spaohio.org.

We care when he goes.

We want to make sure Bogger becomes a real part of his new family.

Humphrey Crossed The Bridge

... Humphrey was a stray PBGV found in Ontario he came in looking like this.. Photobucket

He was brought into rescue in Ontario and then given to a couple of fosters up there.. unfortunately what ever his past was it left deep scars.. The fosters he was placed with could not handle him the second one ended up abusing him because of his stubbornness and he bit her that immediately sent him to Animal Control Toronto where he was to be put down as an aggressive dog.. Well I got a call about him asking if I could help this basset.. Of course I would try but fear aggression is a tough trait to deal with.. So I found a behaviorist/trainer in Kitchener who would work with him.. Months have passed with little success and a basset living daily in fear is no matter to take lightly.. they are the most NON-aggressive dogs out there.. However Humphrey's abuse was so embedded that he suffered terribly.. After allot of back and forth with the behaviorist and his making so little progress still needing to be muzzled as you can see he's not happy..

Photobucket

.. I made a painful decision .. Humphrey was to be released from his own private hell.. So yesterday afternoon in a quiet room on the couch Humphrey passed.. Hopefully now Across The Bridge.. he can run and play without fear..Rest n Peace Humphrey..

Ah Bristol

.. Well another sweetie has come into rescue.. unwanted by an overwhelmed Mom of 3 under 5 years old.. She is about 13 months old.. she had no health record unfortunately.. Tomorrow she will see the vet for her shots.. and to see if she is in heat.. which I strongly suspect. No matter at least I know that there will not be any pups on my watch.. She has blended in well here with the gang.. as well the neighbors kids.. Still I know she is a bit perplexed as to where her family is.. but the others keep her distracted here.. I hope she soon forgets being tossed aside.. I mean really isn't she sweet..

Moose.. Needs A Home

.. This is Moose he's a really good boy loves to cuddle and be close.. He was quite shy coming in as you can see in this picture..

Photobucket

He now feels better about things and fits in.. but he really needs his own family.. the more he attaches himself to me the harder it is for him to be shuffled again.. So I'm asking the Universe to bring a family forward that will love this boy and give him the security of a home and family of his own..If this is you.. please be in touch..
